Seit Smarty 2.4.0 bleiben Variablen während fetch() und display() Aufrufen erhalten. Variablen, die mit config_load() geladen werden sind immer global deklariert. Konfigurationsdateien werden für eine schnellere Ausgabe ebenfalls kompiliert, und halten sich an die <link linkend="variable.force.compile">force_compile</link> und <link linkend="variable.compile.check">compile_check</link> Konfiguration.
